Real wedding Charlotte & Jasdip at Prieuré de Vernelle

Last summer, we had the incredible opportunity to organize the wedding of C&J. It was a multicultural wedding where good vibes and music were the highlights! So, we wanted to reflect on this union in our blog 😉

The planning

We had nearly a year to organize the multicultural union of Jasdip and Charlotte who live in the United States. They have a deep love for France because Charlotte is French. To make it easier for their international guests to attend the wedding, they decided to tie the knot near Paris.

We thoroughly enjoyed working with C&J during our various exchanges. Always in good spirits and light-hearted, the preparations progressed rapidly, and incredible ideas naturally emerged as we discussed the details!

What we loved: C&J had a profound love for music and dance. So, their wedding was a huge celebration where everyone had a lot of fun!

Inspirations

Charlotte and Jasdip wanted a modern and elegant wedding while honoring their respective backgrounds (Jasdip is Sikh Indian). To achieve this, we focused on a very floral decoration. Each day (because yes, the wedding lasted two full days) had its own decoration. The guideline was: subdued tones with some colorful touches.

The bride didn’t just wear one or two dresses, but three different ones! This allowed us to have fun with the wedding’s color palette. Each significant moment of the wedding had its own decoration, while maintaining a coherent theme, and I believe the photos can attest to that 🙂

Ceremonies & rituals

During their wedding, C&J honored their origins with different rituals:

  • Jaago: Jaago is a wedding tradition from Punjabi culture, observed in Sikh weddings. During this ceremony, the bride’s relatives carry illuminated terracotta pots on their heads, while joyful songs are sung to announce the marriage to the community. Jaago symbolizes the impending celebration of marriage and is often accompanied by dancing and music. It’s a festive way to announce the big news and bring families together before the wedding.
  • Baraat: Baraat is a Hindu tradition often observed at weddings in India. It is the joyful procession from the groom’s side to the wedding venue, accompanied by his family and loved ones. The groom is usually mounted on a richly decorated horse, and the procession is enlivened by music, dances and festive songs. The Baraat is a colorful and noisy celebration that marks the arrival of the groom and heralds the start of the wedding festivities.
  • Milni: The Milni tradition is an important part of Sikh and Hindu weddings in India. Milni means “meeting” or “union” in Hindi. It is a ceremony where the families meet for the first time officially. The men of both families greet and hug each other, exchanging garlands of flowers and sometimes symbolic gifts. This symbolizes the union of the two families and marks the beginning of harmony between them.
  • Anand Karaj: Anand Karaj is a tradition specific to Sikh marriage, which literally means “joy of union”. It is the religious wedding ceremony that takes place in a Sikh temple, also called a gurdwara. During Anand Karaj, the couple stands before the Guru Granth Sahib (the holy book of the Sikhs) and recites prayers under the supervision of a granthi (reader of the Guru Granth Sahib) and a ragi (sacred musician). The ceremony includes readings of sacred texts, hymns and devotional songs. The bride and groom make seven circuits around the Guru Granth Sahib, symbolizing their commitment to Sikh teachings.
  • Pastoral Ceremony: It’s a religious ceremony for protestant weddings officiated by a pastor.

Entertainment

For their union, C&J opted for various entertainment activities:

  • A live music band: this was a no-brainer for the couple because Charlotte’s father and uncle are in a band. So, they performed during the wedding! And here’s another surprise… the bride herself, being a very good singer, was able to accompany the band with her beautiful voice. The result: a unique and exceptional moment!
  • A cocktail dinner with a plancha grill: this may seem trivial, but we promise it really adds a touch of conviviality. Firstly, your guests can see the caterer cooking right in front of them, and secondly, it allows them to enjoy some hot bites!
  • A cocktail bar: this was THE essential stand for Charlotte & Jasdip! For two consecutive evenings, guests could enjoy cocktails to their heart’s content thanks to our trusted provider, Black Straws. The newlyweds and the bartenders even created personalized cocktail recipes to mark this special day!
